gstack: the Y Combinator CEO's open-source software factory
A solo builder with an agent rarely has anyone to challenge the idea, lock the architecture or run QA. gstack hands those jobs to slash commands: /office-hours questions the idea, /plan-ceo-review pushes on scope, /review hunts production bugs, /qa opens a real browser and /ship lands the PR. It is all Markdown under the MIT licence.
Role-based planning: /office-hours plus CEO, engineering, design and DX plan reviews, with /autoplan running them in sequence.
/qa tests web apps, APIs, CLIs, jobs or webhooks, and drives a real browser through /browse when a page is involved.
/cso runs an OWASP and STRIDE security audit; its full profiles need Docker images and a native compiler toolchain.
Safety skills /careful, /freeze and /guard warn on destructive commands and keep edits inside one directory.
./setup --host installs it for Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Kiro, Copilot CLI and others at an experimental tier.
When to use it
You are a founder or tech lead shipping alone and need review, QA and release steps without hiring a team.
Before building, you want someone to argue with the plan and decide whether to cut or expand the scope.
A branch is on staging and needs a real-browser pass that catches broken flows and visual slop.
Ask your agent
/office-hours I'm building appointment booking for small clinics, grill me on it
/review look at this branch and find the bugs that would break in production
/qa https://staging.example.com, walk through signup and checkout and report what breaks
Questions
How do I install gstack?
You need Claude Code, Git and Bun. Clone the repo into ~/.claude/skills/gstack and run ./setup, which the author timed at about half a minute on a cloud machine.
Does gstack work in Codex or Cursor?
Yes, with ./setup --host codex or --host cursor, but those hosts are experimental and the safety skills only advise there. Claude Code is the one fully certified host.
What does gstack team mode do?
./setup --team bootstraps your repo so teammates get gstack automatically. The required option blocks work without it, while optional only nudges.
