Deploy to Vercel: from 'push this live' to a working preview URL
“Deploy my app” hides several decisions: is there a git remote, is the folder linked to Vercel, is the CLI logged in. Vercel's official skill runs four checks first, then chooses git push, vercel deploy or a no-auth fallback script, and always hands back the link. Deployments go out as previews unless you ask for production.
Runs four state checks: git remote, .vercel/project.json or repo.json, vercel whoami and the team list, before choosing a method.
For a linked repo with a remote, it offers to commit and push so Vercel builds from git, and asks before every push.
Links unlinked projects with vercel link --repo, which matches the git remote to existing Vercel projects more reliably than folder names.
The no-auth fallback packages the project without node_modules, .git and .env and returns a preview URL plus a claim URL.
Carries separate notes for Claude Code, the claude.ai sandbox and Codex, including when to request escalated network access.
When to use it
A site is ready and you want a preview link for a client or teammate within the same conversation.
A new project has never been linked to Vercel and you want git-push deployments set up from the start.
You are in claude.ai or Codex with no logged-in Vercel CLI and still need a live URL.
Ask your agent
Deploy this app to Vercel and give me the preview link.
Link this repo to my agency team on Vercel and set up deploys on every push.
Deploy the current branch to production on Vercel, I confirm.
Questions
How do I install the Deploy to Vercel skill?
Run npx skills add vercel-labs/agent-skills@deploy-to-vercel. The command npx skills add vercel-labs/agent-skills installs the whole Vercel collection, including react-best-practices and web-design-guidelines.
Does it deploy straight to production?
No. It always creates a preview unless you explicitly ask for production, in which case it adds --prod to vercel deploy.
Can I deploy without a Vercel account?
Yes. The fallback script needs no authentication and returns a preview URL and a claim URL that transfers the deployment to your own account.
