gws: Google Workspace for your agent through one command line
Connecting an agent to Google Workspace usually means wrapping a dozen REST APIs by hand. The gws CLI builds its commands at runtime from Google's Discovery Service and answers in structured JSON, and the bundled skills teach the agent how to use it. The path list holds about 95 of them: one per API, plus helpers, workflows, personas and recipes.
gws-gmail, gws-drive, gws-calendar, gws-sheets, gws-docs and gws-slides cover the main apps, with Chat, Forms, Keep, Meet and Tasks too.
Helpers such as +send, +reply, +triage, +agenda and +append send mail, summarise the inbox, list meetings and append spreadsheet rows.
gws-workflow skills build a standup report, prep the next meeting, turn an email into a task and produce a weekly digest.
persona-* skills set a role like executive assistant or IT admin, and recipe-* skills describe ready-made multi-step operations.
Commands support --dry-run to preview a request and automatic pagination, and every response comes back as JSON.
When to use it
You triage email and your calendar every morning and want the agent to hand you unread mail and the day's meetings.
You track work in Google Sheets and want the agent to append rows and build a report without copy-paste.
You run a Workspace domain and want audit logs and usage reports from the terminal.
Ask your agent
Show me today's unread emails and my meetings before lunch
Create a team meeting on Friday at 3 pm in Calendar and send me the Meet link
Download everything in the Drive folder Contracts 2026 and tell me which files are over 50 MB
Questions
How do I connect the gws skills to my agent?
Install the CLI with npm install -g @googleworkspace/cli or a binary from GitHub Releases, run gws auth setup, then add the skills with npx skills add. You can also add just one, such as gws-drive.
Why does login fail with Access blocked?
Add your own account under Test users on the OAuth consent screen. An unverified app is also capped at roughly 25 scopes, so pick services with the -s flag.
Is gws an official Google tool?
No. It lives in the googleworkspace organisation, but the README says it is not an officially supported Google product and breaking changes are expected before v1.0.
