What it does
firecrawl-search finds sources with query-matched excerpts; firecrawl-scrape pulls a known page as Markdown, HTML or schema-shaped JSON.
firecrawl-crawl and firecrawl-map walk a site and list its URLs, while firecrawl-download saves what was found.
firecrawl-interact and firecrawl-agent navigate pages on their own and gather structured data when one request is not enough.
firecrawl-developer-index searches current docs, release notes and issues for libraries when you name a version or paste an error.
firecrawl-research-index searches a paper-abstract corpus led by biomedical literature, with arXiv preprints in CS, physics and maths.
When to use it
You need a competitor review built from their actual pages, prices and copy rather than from search snippets.
A library changed after the model's training cutoff and the agent should read the current release notes before editing code.

How do I install the Firecrawl skills in Claude Code?
Install the CLI with npm install -g firecrawl-cli and run firecrawl setup core, or add the skills with npx skills add. Pass --agent claude-code to target only that harness.
Can I use Firecrawl without an API key?
Yes, with a self-hosted instance set through --api-url or FIRECRAWL_API_URL: any URL other than api.firecrawl.dev skips authentication.
What is the difference between CLI skills and workflow skills?
CLI skills cover the core web commands and install by default. Workflow skills are end-to-end recipes such as research briefs, SEO audits and lead lists, picked separately.
