Deep Research Skills: research you steer item by item
Ask an agent for a big survey in one prompt and it skims, dropping half the items. These skills split the job: /research drafts a list of items and fields, you extend or trim it, /research-deep sends one agent per item to the web, and /research-report turns the JSON results into a report.md with a table of contents.
/research does a first pass on the topic and proposes an outline: which items to study and which fields to fill for each one.
/research-add-items and /research-add-fields grow an existing outline when the item list or the field set turns out short.
/research-deep launches an independent web-searching agent per item, so each entry gets its own focused investigation.
/research-report writes a Markdown report covering every field and leaves out values the agents could not confirm.
Ships in English and Chinese, plus a Codex build that relies on its own web-researcher agent and multi-agent mode.
When to use it
Comparing a dozen-plus AI agents or frameworks on the same fields such as vendor, pricing and specs.
A paper or benchmark survey where every work on the list must be covered, not just the famous ones.
Due diligence on a company or its competitors, where the research plan should be agreed before digging.
Ask your agent
/research open-source vector databases for production RAG in 2026
Add fields for licence and managed hosting price to the outline, then run /research-deep
Run /research-report and list separately the items where no data was found
Questions
How do I install Deep Research Skills in Claude Code?
Clone the repo, copy skills/research-en into ~/.claude/skills, copy web-search-agent.md and web-search-modules into ~/.claude/agents, then run pip install pyyaml. npx skills add will find four sets in the repo: English, Chinese and two Codex builds.
Does Deep Research Skills work in Codex?
Yes. The research-codex-en and research-codex-zh folders target Codex together with a web-researcher.toml agent; trigger them from /skills or ask in plain words.
What commands does Deep Research Skills add?
Five: /research, /research-add-items, /research-add-fields, /research-deep and /research-report. Claude Code older than 2.1.0 calls them as run /research.
